Imagine a time long, long ago, before cities, before schools, and even before many of the things we take for granted today! This is the world of early civilizations. These were some of the very first large groups of people who came together to form organized societies. They didn't just live in small tribes; they built permanent settlements, often near rivers, which provided water for drinking and farming. Think of places like Mesopotamia, ancient Egypt, the Indus Valley, and early China. In these places, people learned to farm, domesticate animals, and develop new tools. They created governments to manage their communities, developed writing systems to record information, and built impressive structures like pyramids and temples. Studying early civilizations helps us understand how human societies began to grow and develop, laying the groundwork for the world we live in now.
