✍🏻 5th Grade Science: The Solar System and Planets

Welcome to an exciting journey through space! Our Solar System is a vast and amazing place, home to our Sun, eight planets, and countless other celestial bodies. At the center is the Sun, a huge star that gives us light and warmth. Orbiting the Sun are the eight planets, each with its own unique characteristics. First, we have the rocky inner planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth (our home!), and Mars. Mercury is super hot during the day and freezing at night. Venus is known for its thick, hot atmosphere. Earth is special because it has liquid water and life. Mars, often called the Red Planet, has polar ice caps and might have had water in the past. Beyond Mars lies the asteroid belt, a region filled with rocks. After that, we find the gas giants: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Jupiter is the largest planet, famous for its Great Red Spot. Saturn is beautiful with its prominent rings made of ice and rock. Uranus and Neptune are ice giants, far out in the cold, dark reaches of our Solar System.
