✍🏻 2nd Grade English (ELA): Parts Of Speech (Nouns, Verbs)

Hello, amazing 2nd graders! Today, we're going to learn about two very important kinds of words called Nouns and Verbs. Think of words as building blocks for sentences. Nouns are words that name a person, place, animal, or thing. For example, 'teacher' is a person, 'school' is a place, 'cat' is an animal, and 'book' is a thing. Can you think of a noun right now? Maybe your name, your house, or your favorite toy! Verbs are action words! They tell us what a noun is doing. If a noun is a 'doer,' then a verb is the 'doing.' Words like 'run,' 'jump,' 'sing,' 'eat,' and 'sleep' are all verbs. For instance, in the sentence 'The dog runs,' 'dog' is the noun and 'runs' is the verb. In 'I eat apples,' 'I' (a pronoun acting as a noun here) is doing the action of 'eat.' Nouns and verbs work together to make our sentences complete and exciting.
